ALCOHOL has been seized from youths in Crook after police and other agencies led a crackdown.
On Friday night (August 23) officers from Crook neighbourhood policing team patrolled hotspots for underage drinking in the town with staff from various Durham County Council departments.
During the operation, three litres of cider, one bottle and five cans of cider were seized from youths.
The police were joined by the council’s street wardens, trading standards officers, licencing unit, 4Real alcohol workers and the Anti-Social behaviour team.
The team have made tackling under-age drinking and the anti-social behaviour it causes a priority after concerns were raised by the public.
Since April the police have carried out 86 patrols in hotspot areas including around Crook Beck, Bell Street and Glenholme Park.
A spokesman for the beat team said they could only tackle the problem with the support of the public.
He said: “If anyone sees people who they believe to be under-age with alcohol, please ring 101 when you see them, as this would be a great help to us.”
