DURHAM Constabulary Band and Male Voice Choir are taking a break from tradition by changing venues for their Christmas charity concert.

For the first time in 20 years, the musicians and choristers will appear at Durham Johnson School, rather than at the force's Aykley Heads headquarters, to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

The concert will be held on Saturday, December 16 at the school's Upper Site, in Redhills Lane, Crossgate Moor, Durham, at 7pm.

"The change of venue offers two major benefits, as the school site is not only larger, but also has ramped or level access throughout," said the choir's secretary, Sergeant Steve Taylor.

The GNAAS was a beneficiary of the concert in 2003, receiving £3,500. Organisers hope this year's concert will boost the joint figure to more than £5,000.

"In true Christmas spirit, there will be even more seasonal music than usual, and traditional community carol singing will bring the night to a close," said Sgt Taylor.

Tickets cost £5 and can be obtained from Sgt Taylor on 0191-375-2991 or 0191-377-2914.
