AN ambulance worker has travelled to Africa to spend Christmas helping disadvantaged communities.
Peter Pollard, an ambulance care assistant based in Haxby, near York, has travelled to the southern African country of Lesotho.
He will spend the next month and a half helping to set up self-help schemes to combat food shortages, malnutrition and Aids.
He is a member of Red R -an international emergency relief organisation.
Last year, he travelled to Sri Lanka to help the victims of the tsunami disaster.
Mr Pollard said: "I wanted to go at this time because I would really like to share Christmas dinner with orphans who do not get the chance to celebrate like we do.
"Going to Lesotho is a good opportunity for me and all counts towards my emergency relief training."
