A WALL hanging featuring images of Yorkshire has gone on display.

It was produced by members of Middleton Tyas Sewing Group and now hangs in the village hall.

The 5ft by 4ft piece is the group's first project since it formed about nine months ago.

Group leader Lindsay Deeble said: "It was very much a group effort and we are very happy with the result.

"We had a lot of fun and people who are not particularly great at sewing learnt quite a lot along the way.

"It will also make a nice feature in the village hall."

Scenes depicted by the villagers include Whitby Abbey, Dales landscapes and a cricketer.

The Middleton Tyas shop van also features in the creation.

The Reverend Graham Smith, chairman of the village hall committee and team vicar for the Middleton Tyas area, said: "I think it is an absolutely wonderful piece.

"It is the sort of thing which will become a piece of heritage in years to come."

The members of the group are Judith Laycock, Daphne Carter, Joyce Smith, Susan Mahaffy, Elizabeth Davies, Rosemary Barron, Jean Burn, Lynne McCulloch and Pat Siddal.
