QUESTION
It's really unimportant, but is there anything that can be added to a bitch's diet that will make her urine less acidic. We have never had a bitch before, always dogs but wherever she goes for a pee the grass just dies. Any comments would be gratefully appreciated.

ANSWER
Dear A. Tinsley,
I suppose the first thing is to get a urine sample and have the pH checked. It needs to be about pH 6.5. if this is the pH, then you will have to put up with the problem, as it can be unhealthy to change it-for your dog! Adding things such as vitamin c, potassium salts, sodium bicarbonate, at low levels, all can help to alter the pH, but may not be necessary.
