TWO students from Stokesley Sixth Form College are planning a trip to South Africa to teach sports and work in an orphanage.
Emma Hughes and Dustin Talkington, from Carlton-in-Cleveland, near Stokesley, need to raise £10,000 between them to pay for the trip on September 1 next year.
Miss Hughes said she was excited about going and looking forward to meeting the local people and seeing the wildlife and landscape.
During the three-month trip to Port Elizabeth, organised by Gap Sports Abroad, Mr Talkington will teach football.
Miss Hughes will spend her first seven weeks in one of Port Elizabeth's orphanages then teach swimming Monday to Friday for the last five weeks.
"I do quite a bit of swimming," she said. "I think it is such a nice skill if you can swim. It is one of those basic skills that everybody should learn.
"There are about 1,000 drownings a year in South Africa alone. People come from poor backgrounds and they don't have the money to get out and learn these skills."
The pair will have their evenings and weekends free and Miss Hughes wants to use up some of the time to indulge in extreme sports.
"I'm really interested in sharks and I really want to do some shark diving there. I will go and see what's what there and give anything a go."
