A TEENAGER was jailed for 12 months today after strangling a girl as they had sex in an arts centre's toilets.
Tony Shotton was charged with rape, but police later accepted his story that he and the 16-year-old girl went for sex to the loo in Darlington Arts Centre, after drinking vodka in a park.
Shotton admitted headbutting the girl when they argued. He also strangled her and she passed out for a short time, Teesside Crown Court was told.
Judge George Moorhouse told Shotton:"Through drink and through stupidity you committed a very serious offence."
Shotton of Westminster Road, Darlington, was sentenced to 12 months in a young offender's institution after he pleaded guilty to the 26 May actual bodily harm assault.
