SANTA Claus will be touring Durham in a car-drawn sleigh thanks to the efforts of local Rotarians.

The Rotary Club of Durham City is again organising the charity event. Last year, £4,000 was collected for various causes.

Club spokesman Derek Sowell said: "It is very popular. The mothers and their kiddies wait for us to turn up and listen for the sound of the music.

"We donated to 23 local charities last year, so we do spread it wide. This year, we will be donating to charities including St Cuthbert's Hospice, Alington House, Cruse and Victim Support.''

Santa's sleigh will be visiting the following venues: Belmont, Thursday, 5.30pm to 8pm; Nevilles Cross, Friday, 5.30pm to 8pm; Sainsbury's, The Arnison Centre, Saturday, December 9, 10am to 4pm; High Shincliffe, Monday, December 11, 5.30pm to 8pm; Bowburn, Tuesday, December 12, 5.30pm to 8pm; Newton Hall, Wednesday, December 13, 5.30pm to 8pm; Sainsbury's, The Arnison Centre, Thursday, December 14, 5.30pm to 8pm; North End, Friday, December 15, 5.30pm to 8pm; Market Place, Saturday, December 16, 8.30am to 3pm; Tesco, Dragonville, Sunday, December 17, 10am to 4pm.
