YOUNGSTERS looking for something to do during the summer holidays are being invited to a music workshop led by a top African band.

Siyaya Arts will be working with Jack Drum Arts in Crook, County Durham, for one week in July on a theatrical holiday club.

The group are a professional performance troupe from Zimbabwe featuring musicians, dancers, singers, performers and artists.

Julie Ward from Jack Drum Arts described Siyaya Arts as world class and said this will be the group’s first visit to County Durham.

She said: “Over the course of the week young people can have a go at drumming, percussion, singing, drama and dance bringing the magic of Africa to Crook for one week only.

“Fresh from Africa, the group are colourful, climatic and bursting at the seams with energy.”

The workshop week will culminate with a performance at the Lamplight Arts Centre where the youngsters will perform the curtain raiser for Siyaya Arts touring show ThaTha.

The workshops will run from 10am to 3pm everyday between Tuesday, July 23, and Friday, July 26, at the St Cuthbert’s Centre on Church Hill in Crook.

The programme costs £5 per day or £15 for all four days, with the performance on the Friday evening.
