STAFF at a landmark hotel which has stopped taking bookings beyond the weekend fear they will lose their jobs next week.

As reported previously, the Three Tuns Hotel, on New Elvet, Durham, is no longer taking bookings beyond Sunday.

A hotel worker, who asked to remain anonymous, said a 30-day consultation period on redundancy will end on Wednesday and staff expect to learn their fate on Thursday or Friday.

The hotel currently employs 29 people on site.

Deloitte, the administrators of the Swallow group – The Three Tuns’ parent company, has so far refused to make any comment.

Durham University said in February it was in early talks to acquire the building but has declined to make any further statement since then.

The hotel, which can trace its roots back to the 16th century, has 50 bedrooms, a lounge bar and conference facilities for up to 350 people.
