A NORTH-East boccia player has been named in the England squad for two forthcoming international matches.

Chris Jackson, 22, has been playing the wheelchair sport, similar to boules, since he was at school.

Now Mr Jackson, who has muscular dystrophy, has been included in the England squad to play Norway and the Czech Republic in Oslo and Prague in late May and early June, respectively.

He said: “I am really excited. When I started playing I always wanted to compete for England, it’s been one of my goals.

“I’m really looking forward to competing in the internationals.”

Mr Jackson, of Carrville, Durham, is the founder of Boccia Durham, a club with around ten players which competes in a North-East league.

He trains three times a week, using a specially made metal head pointer to push the balls towards the jack.

Mr Jackson must meet all his own travel expenses, plus equipment and facility hire costs. Anyone who is interested in assisting with sponsorship should call his father, Gary Jackson, on 0191-386-9236 or email: garyjackson1@hotmail.co.uk
