POLICE moved on more than 100 young revellers after being called to reports of an illegal rave in a disused hospital building near a North-East airport.

Officers were called to the site close to Durham Tees Valley Airport, near Darlington, at about 10.15pm on Friday (April 26) evening.

It is believed partygoers had used social networking sites to make arrangements for the unlicensed gathering in a crumbling building.

Inspector Suky Sahani, of Darlington police, said the rave was shut down peacefully, with no arrests made.

A message on the rave organisers’ Facebook site said the rave was shut down by police because the building was unsafe.

The party is understood to have moved to a second location, in Stockton, before that too was shut down, by officers from Cleveland Police.
