AN ELECTRICITY supply company has thanked customers who suffered a power cut last week for their patience.
Around 1,500 homes in Chilton, Ferryhill Station and Windlestone, in County Durham, were left without electricity for up to ten hours on Friday (December 7) after two power failures.
Some residents criticised Northern Powergrid for failing to keep householders adequately informed throughout the day.
A Northern Powergrid spokesman, who was not available to comment at the weekend, said: “We would like to thank all our customers for bearing with us while our engineers worked to restore power and where we had people’s contact details we were able to text them with regular information updates.
“Sadly knocking on the doors of all our customers affected in a power cut like this is not always practical as field resources are usually diverted to fixing the problem.”
He recommended customers contact the company directly during a power cut so it has their correct details and can automatically send them text updates.
He said that on Friday advisors gave the most current information available at that stage but because estimated times of restoration can unfortunately change they may have differed from updates given earlier in the day.
