FORMER world cruiserweight champion Glenn McCrory and his sister Kelly Flower have published a book of poetry penned by their mother.

‘My Life in Verse’ is a collection of pieces by Gloria McCrory, who has been writing since a young woman.

It covers topics ranginf from her father’s work as a pitman, Durham Miners’ Gala, the North-East countryside, blindness and boxing.

Mrs McCrory, 73, who lives with her husband, Brian in Burnhope, said: “Others may be able to relate to the some of the topics in it and I hope people will like it.”

Mrs McCrory, who has seven children, 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, started writing as a hobby around 50 years ago.

She added: “I am over the moon with what Glenn and Kelly have done.

“They said they wanted to bring all of my poems together, but never told me they wanted to publish it. It was a lovely surprise.”

The book is available online though Amazon and costs £4.99.
