A BISHOP AUCKLAND man has died after suffering serious injuries in a crash last night.

The man, in his 20s, died when his car collided with a van near Bishop Auckland in County Durham yesterday.

The crash took place at 5.15pm on the northbound lane of the A68 at Etherley Bank on the outskirts of Bishop Auckland.

A black Renault Clio was heading south in the direction of West Auckland when for unknown reasons it crossed the centre line and went into the opposite carriageway.

It collided with a white Mercedes Sprinter van.

The driver of the car, a man from Bishop Auckland who has not yet been named, suffered serious injuries which proved fatal, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The van driver, a 55-year-old man from Rotherham, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital with internal injuries which have been described as 'serious but not life threatening.'

Durham Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact the force on the non emergency number, 101.
