SCHOOL pupils who contributed to an epic new storybook are getting sight of the finished work for the first time.
Nearly 300 children from ten year five and six classes at primary schools across Durham City each put forward one chapter for inclusion in the One Big Story book following day-long workshops with a drama teacher, a writer and an illustrator earlier this year.
The book, titled There’s Something In the Water, is being unveiled at events a Clayport, Belmont and Newton Hall libraries this week.
One Big Story was run by Off The Page Drama and developed by project co-ordinator Christina Maiden.
She said: “I am thrilled by the positive impact the project is having on the children’s creativity and confidence.
“Their ideas have made a fantastic story.”
Teacher Rachel Hockey, from St Joseph’s RCVA Primary School, in Gilesgate, said the project had been enjoyable as well as educational and confidence building.
