LocationShadforth is located in the beautiful North-East of England, in County Durham, Land of the Prince Bishops, about five miles east of the City of Durham. The village is very old and was mentioned in the Boldon Book of 1183. It is perhaps the only village in England with the name 'Shadforth' meaning 'Shallow Ford . The oldest part of the village has maintained its medieval shape of irregular houses placed around a linear village green. Although surrounded by coal mines and industry, Shadforth is unusual as it has always remained rural, never having its own pit. Shadforth is known as one of the green villages of the North-East of England, having a registered village green and being designated a conservation area. The village has changed over the years but proudly retains it's community spirit and has many activities occurring in it's village hall totally maintained and funded by the villagers. Over the last 3 years the park in the village has undergone a major programme of refurbishment and enhancements with Family Fun Days being held every 3rd Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm.
