RACING enthusiast Colin Woods has got in touch following a piece on Dante, the Middleham racehorse which won the Derby 75 years ago but then had to retire as he lost his eyesight.

“Enjoyed your piece on Dante,” says Colin. “The condition from which he suffered was known as "moon blindness" and is now treatable in about 90 per cent of equine cases, though often steroids are used – in which case Dante would have failed a routine drug test and ironically been disqualified as a result!”
