LAST week we delved into a hitherto unexplored packet of pictures in The Northern Echo's photo-library marked "Darlington Inner Ring Road".

There has been a great response from our old car spotters and lost building enthusiasts and we are still filtering through it. To keep the interest going, here's another selection from the same archive packet.

Most of these pictures were taken shortly before the A1 bypass around the town was opened in May 1965. They appear to show a scheme for the town centre traffic flow with a one-way system sending northbound traffic off Grange Road and along West Street into Coniscliffe Road so that if flowed down Blackwellgate and onto High Row. This layout only operated for a decade or so as the inner ring road was then built in stages taking all traffic away from High Row.

If you can shed any light on any of the buildings or vehicles or sights or scenes in these pictures, please email chris.lloyd@nne.co.uk
