STOCKTON is a town of many surprises, one of which must be the architectural richness of its main street.
Although several new malls, and even hotels, have appeared over the years, there is still a great variety of styles in the High Street, as these pictures from The Northern Echo's photo-archive show.
And it is a great surprise to discover the sweet factory that used to be in one of the yards off the High Street. If you have anything to add to any of the pictures, please email chris.lloyd@nne.co.uk
