LIVERPOOL indie trio The Wombats brought a mix of the old and the new to Newcastle’s O2 Academy to promote their latest album ‘Beautiful people will ruin your life’.

The band who formed over a decade ago and consist of members; Dan Haggis, Tord Overland Knudsen and Matthew Murphy, have had success with 4 studio albums as well as an NME award and its clear to see why the band are such a hit with the fans.

The night opened with support from The Night Café and Bloxx who warmed the crowd up who had filled the room in anticipation for the main act.

Before long the lights went down and the trio took to the stage much to the delight of the fans who had sold the academy out.

The band played through a variety of hits including ‘Black Flamingo’, ‘Pink Lemonade’, ‘Moving to New York’ and one of their most loved songs ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’ which sent the crowd into a frenzy and saw the crowd climb onto each other’s shoulder to dance along.

The night was orchestrated in front of a huge LED screen which gave each song its own theme, keeping the crowd enthralled in the story the band were telling.

The band who have sold out almost every date on the tour will go on to play in Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester, London and Southampton before kicking off the European leg of the tour in the Netherlands.
