THE Druids used to have a presence in Darlington and may still have, and like many people I imagined them to be a bunch of white robed homeless loonies, who brandished sickles to cut mistletoe, worshipped the sun and had a fixation with Stonehenge.
And this short introduction still leaves me puzzled.
It does outline to 2,000 year history of the Druids in Western Europe and show how they have adapted to changing circumstances over the centuries, but it fails to penetrate the essence of their beliefs and lift their veil of mystery, which is maybe what the Druids want.
