Chopin Piano Concerto No1 (Naxos 8.572335)
Pianist Eldar Nebolsin and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra present a scintillating account of Chopin’s youthful work, which is dominated by the brilliant piano part the teenage performercomposer wrote to show his extraordinary virtuosity. It is coupled with Chopin’s Fantasy on Polish Airs.
Serebrier: Symphony No 1 etc (Naxos 8.559648)
The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s composer-in-residence Jose Serebrier presents a selection of his music, including Symphony No 1. Highly recommended.
Paganini: Caprices etc (Naxos 8.570703)
Violinist Philippe Quint, described as a modern day Paganini, demonstrates his showmanship with these works, arranged by Fritz Kreisler for violin and piano.
The CD includes two large-scale sets of variations based on themes from Rossini operas and several Caprices. Dmitriy Cogan provides the perfect accompaniment.
Ireland: Violin Sonatas Nos 1 & 2 (Naxos 8.572497)
The Gould Trio present recitals of these two works, with one of Ireland’s most profoundly expressive pieces, the Cello Sonata.
