Adrian Dunbar (aka Line of Duty’s Ted Hastings) impressed viewers a couple of weeks ago with his first outing as the guest host of the satirical quiz show, leaving fans wondering what other unlikely contenders might get a chance to sit in the hot seat during this series. However, there’s still something to be said for a safe pair of hands, which is what we are getting tonight as Steph McGovern takes charge for the sixth time. The panellists joining regular team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton are comedian Zoe Lyons and the BBC’s former Deputy Political Editor John Pienaar who, believe it or not, is making his HIGNFY debut.

This Time with Alan Partridge (BBC1, regions vary)

Anyone who has been tracking Alan Partridge’s career over the years will know he’s ready to turn his hand to almost any showbiz challenge – he’s been a sports reporter, a chat show host, a local radio DJ and made a few documentaries. So, in theory, he should be at home hosting a daily magazine show that makes some sudden tonal shifts (think The One Show, because it seems likely that the creators were). However, tonight the show is focussing on criminal justice, which seems like it could lead to some pitfalls for an unwary presenter. At least a new make-up artist is putting a spring in his step, but there’s also a blast from the past.
