A CELEBRATED continental choir is performing in the North-East as part of its first international tour to the UK.

The mixed tone sounds of one of Germany’s most acclaimed, multi-award-winning male choirs will resonate round Durham Cathedral next month.

Sonat Vox, sounds and voices, promise to provide a sparkling evening, combining world-famous classical works with traditional German folk songs.

The repertoire mixes masterpieces from the Baroque, Renaissance and Romantic periods with more contemporary choral pieces and secular works.

Known for its technical precision and vocal excellence, the choir has garnered legions of fans across its home country, winning prizes at the German Music Council Competition, Bavarian Choir Competition and International Harmony Festival.

As an SATB four-part choir, it offers a unique sound where male alto voices are interwoven among bass and tenor pitches.

The Durham date, Friday October 11, is the second leg of a ten-night tour, including five cathedrals, four churches or chapels and a castle.

Tickets are available online, with further details from www.durhamcathedral.co.uk, or by calling 0191-386-4266.
