A DIY music festival is set to take over a number of venues to deliver acts to suit all tastes.

Music Box is returning to Darlington for the fourth time with 35 acts performing at six stages throughout the day-long event.

The festival, organised in association with Tracks, Fifth Arch Brewery and Butterfly Effect Records, will set up stage in Hash Bar, Hole In The Wall and Avalon, as well as a couple of pop up locations, to create one whole day of fun.

Organiser David Saunders said: “We’re delighted that a festival filled with original local acts, from all genres, on a Sunday afternoon is now heading into its fourth year. As always we hope the town and local music scene get behind it and have a really nice time."

Last year's event

The festival has now made itself an important fixture in Darlington’s cultural calendar, as it celebrates what is going on musically in and around the town, as well as trying to entertain and inspire local musicians and gig goers with a diverse and exciting lineup of acts.

Dave Johnson, owner of Avalon and Hole In The Wall, is one of the key supporters of the festival. He welcomed the announcement describing it as a 'good day out'.

The Juke Box stage in Avalon will see local band the Llovers as the headline act with support from Petals and Neon Waves.

On the Roofbox Stage at Hash Bar will be more laid back with a folk and acoustic feel.

Mr Saunders said: "A cracking stage featuring different styles of folk and acoustic and headlined by the fantastic Megan Dotchin. I’ve been a fan of Megan’s music for a while, it has that effortless, Southern Gothic cool and cinematic ambience that captivates audiences."

There will be heavier style of music on the Soapbox Stage at Hole In The Wall, presented by Noisy Daughters, acts include Twist Helix.

Sarah Wilson, stage curator, said: "The past year we’ve put on a series of Noisy Daughters gigs and industry events to help inspire and celebrate females in the music industry. It’s great that we can take the ethos of what we’ve been doing into Music Box and programme a line up that is filled with exciting local female talent."

Advanced tickets, for the festival on Sunday, June 9, are £8 and available from Hole in the Wall, Hatch Luncheonette or Hash Bar & Kitchen.
