SOME of the North-East's best emerging talent will get the chance to perform in front of 70,000 people later this month when they appear at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend.

Jade Bird, Tom Walker, and Aitch are among the latest artists to join the bill at the event in Stewart Park from May 24 to 26.

The BBC Music Introducing stage at Big Weekend will see some of the best emerging talent from across the UK as well as a number of artists with links to the North East, such as Dylan Cartlidge, L Devine, Eve Conway, Cape Cuband Llovers.

The Northern Echo:

Radio 1’s Big Weekend line-up includes the likes of Miley Cyrus, Stormzy, Mumford & Sons, The 1975, Little Mix and Mark Ronson.

A series of travel offers have also been announced for ticket holders, with event goers are being strongly urged not to drive to Stewart Park due to road closures, traffic diversions and clearways in place around the site.

The Northern Echo:

No event parking or drop off zones will be available close to the park and instead dedicated public transport services including shuttle buses, trains and a park & ride facility will be on offer.

Concert goers wanting to use the shuttle buses on offer are also encouraged to take advantage of early bird offers which will see travel offered at £5 and £7.50 until May 10, with a price increase of £2.50 on both prices after that date.

A page has been set up on Middlesbrough Council's website which outlines all of the travel options available.

The Northern Echo:

Residents of the Tees Valley can click onto their own postcode and see in detail the services, times, pick up and drop off locations and prices of all offers

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Council said: "BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend is one of the biggest music festivals in the UK and one of the biggest events to happen in Middlesbrough or the Tees Valley in recent times.

"It promises to be a truly special celebration of music and also of Middlesbrough and we want everyone to enjoy it.

"The travel restrictions and travel offers are all in place to make life easier for everyone and we would urge all ticket holders to plan their trip in advance."
