ONE of the region's football "cathedrals" will echo to the sounds of classical favourites this summer.
Long after the last ball is kicked this season, Sunderland's Stadium of Light will host its first major music concert.
The Summer Music Spectacular will showcase the talents of the Sunderland Symphony Orchestra, performing light classical and film music on a stage on the pitch.
The concert, on July 15, will feature two singers, more than 60 musicians and a chorus of 50 people.
Managed and promoted by Music For All, a charity set up to help Sunderland's East End community, the orchestra is directed by founding conductor Rupert Hanson, who was born in the city.
The concert will include Dance of the Knights, from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, which is played as the teams enter the field.
Tickets are £15, on 0191-534-2413. For corporate packages, call 0191-551-5100.
