THE SummerTyne Americana Festival at The Sage Gateshead takes place from July 19 to 21. This year the indoor events kick off with The Mavericks, followed by appearances from Heritage Blues Orchestra, Mud Morganfield (eldest son of Muddy Waters), Patty Griffin, Matthew E White, Shelby Lynne and Willy Mason.

Elsewhere in the programme, a celebration of some of the finest women in Country Music is presented, with concerts by Patty Griffin, Shelby Lynne and Larkin Poe plus Honky Tonk Angels – based on the hit song by vintage country queen Kitty Wells – featuring Elizabeth Cook, Jan Howard, and big-voiced Yolanda Quartey among a host of guests.

The free outdoor stage performers include The David Wax Museum, Tom Russell and Polly and The Billets Doux, cajun suppers with Steve Riley and The Mamou Playboys. There are again musical boat trips up the River Tyne.

A SummerTyne Bluegrass supper will feature Vera Van Heeringen, Dan Walsh and the Kentucky Cowtippers (thesagegateshead.org/event/bluegra ss-supper).
