NORTHERN Gas and Power is the principal sponsor of the UK’s first Net Zero Week, running from July 17 to 23.

The Government and industry-backed national awareness week will be a focal point for generating awareness and momentum for businesses starting the journey to decarbonise and an information hub for those already on their way.

In June 2019, the UK became the first major global economy to pass laws to end its contribution to climate change. The legislation committed the nations of the UK to reduce all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.

Net Zero Week will run annually each summer, this year taking place just three months prior to the UK hosting the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in November 2021, in Glasgow.

The national awareness week has widespread support across the industry with over 40 organisations supporting the not-for-profit initiative.

Net Zero Week 2021 offers all stakeholders a dedicated platform to voice opinions, share evidence and best practice, explore strategy, and highlight solutions in our shared journey towards a net zero carbon future.

Northern Gas and Power founder and CEO, Fokhrul Islam, said: “This is a hugely powerful initiative which will drive greater awareness of the impact of climate change and promote stronger collaboration across the industry.

“If we work together now, as a sector and as businesses, we have a golden opportunity to achieve a net zero carbon future. We all have an important part to play in this vital goal and we are proud to be the principal sponsor of the inaugural Net Zero Week.”

Tim McManan-Smith, Head of External Affairs, Net Zero Week, said: “It is great to have such a trusted and dominant energy consultancy on board in our inaugural year. We will be working closely with Northern Gas and Power and the many associations partnering the week to make sure we raise awareness and inspire businesses on their path towards net zero.”

Greg Clark MP said: “Climate change is the single greatest challenge facing mankind. The UK is leading the world in rising to this challenge and can take pride in being a nation that is not just showing ambition but one which holds a record to match. We all have a stake in this, and I applaud the efforts of individuals, organisations and initiatives like Net Zero Week in highlighting the importance of this vital work.”

During Net Zero Week 2021 the comprehensive webinar and podcast programme will all be free-to-attend. The exclusive programme is aimed at educating and inspiring businesses of all types and sizes.

Furthermore, in the build-up to the week across three days, 14-16 July, there will also be some must-attend keynote webinar sessions.
