SUSPECTED burglars are believed to have targeted a Co-op shop during an overnight raid.

The shutters remained closed at the shop on Sunningdale Drive, Eaglescliffe, while police carried out their investigations.

Staff confirmed that the store had been burgled in the early hours.

A Co-op spokesperson, said: “We can confirm there was a break-in at the Eaglescliffe Co-op in Stockton-on-Tees at 1am on Thursday 10th June, in which four men vandalised the store and unsuccessfully attempted to steal goods.

"Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident, but we do urge anyone who may have any information to come forward to Police, who are investigating.

"The store is now open to the public.”

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "We received a report of a break in at the Co Op on Sunningdale Drive in Eaglescliffe at 1.15am this morning.

"It is not clear at the moment if anything was taken. Enquiries are ongoing."
