A CIVIL and highways engineering design consultancy is targeting new contracts after complementing an office expansion with the recruitment of its first apprentice.

Lynas Engineers is looking to build on order book successes following a move to larger premises at the Wilton Centre, near Redcar.

Bosses, who have taken on apprentice Tom Hustwitt to maintain the business’ momentum, say they hope to tap into the Wilton Centre’s array of tenants, which include the North East Process Industry Cluster (Nepic).

Founded just last year by Rob Lynas, the firm provides services such as project management, computer-aided design and building information modelling, with clients including Middlesbrough Council and Newcastle-based Linden Homes.

Reflecting on the growth of the business, which employs four engineers alongside Mr Hustwitt, Mr Lynas, who has 20 years’ experience of civil engineering, said he is excited by his venture’s potential.

He also confirmed his intent to seek partnerships with neighbouring operators.

He said: “2017 has been very good for us; we’ve won some excellent clients and grown quickly, and we are confident 2018 can be as good.

“I chose the Wilton Centre for my office because it has flexible accommodation and good on-site facilities.

“After I attended a couple of events here, I didn’t look anywhere else.

“It’s also the base for Nepic, so next year we hope to start doing business with some of our fellow occupiers.”

Steve Duffield, site director, said Lynas’ commitment represents another boost for the Wilton Centre, following moves by the Centre for Process Innovation and petrochemical firm Sabic to take fresh long-term leases at the base.

He added: “Lynas’ success in just one year is an excellent example of how businesses can grow from one desk or a small office at the Wilton Centre.

“Using our serviced offices means companies can focus on doing business, not sorting out issues with their accommodation.”

Stephen Brown, senior partner at Middlesbrough-based Dodds Brown, who acted as letting agent, said Lynas has set itself up well for success. He added: “Wilton Centre is one of the best office locations in Teesside for all sizes and types of organisation.”
