FARMERS will next week learn details of a deal that has been struck over the closure of York sugar beet factory.
The agreement, with British Sugar, will be explained at a National Farmers' Union (NFU) meeting in Strensall Village Hall, near York, on Wednesday at 9.30am.
John Hoyles, chairman of the NFU sugar board, and Helen Kirkman, the NFU's national sugar advisor, will present details of the deal, including the haulage allowance for the 2007/2008 growing season, and the agreed price for next year's crop.
The closure, in February, will affect 1,200 growers and 1,500 related jobs.
