WORK has started on a multi-million pound business complex designed to help meet demand for commercial space and create jobs.

Thirsk development company Severfield-Reeve Projects (SRP) is developing a 1.7-acre site at the town's industrial park with a range of warehouse and office start-up units.

The complex will be called Concept Business Court and has been designed and developed by SRP.

The warehouses have been designed so they can be adapted to meet individual occupier needs. They are nearing completion and the offices will be available on a leasehold basis next summer.

SRP managing director, Lindsay Ross, who is also chairman of Thirsk Market Town Initiative, said: "Demand for smaller warehouse units and smaller start-up office space is increasing in Thirsk and it is vital that these facilities are provided to help nurture the rural economy while interest is buoyant.

"The two industrial parks serving the area - Thirsk Industrial Park and Dalton Airfield Industrial Estate - have always been successful but generally cater for larger enterprises.

"The new offices have been designed to focus on start-up businesses and small to medium-sized enterprises, but will be able to be adapted to a range of sizes and commercial uses."

SRP is a subsidiary of the world's biggest structural steel fabrication business, Severfield-Rowen.
