A with a lifelong passion for making necklaces and earrings has hailed a regional business support scheme for helping turn her hobby into a successful career.

Elizabeth Carney, 43, from Hesleden, in County Durham, is now marketing her wares all over the world, via the internet, after Be Enterprising helped get the fledgling business up and running.

Her contemporary jewellery has already attracted attention from North-East gallery officials who asked if she would design a piece for the charity Give Tilly a Hand.

The charity supports fouryear- old Tilly Lockey from Tow Law, in County Durham, who contracted a severe form of meningitis as a baby, losing her hands and toes.

Ms Carney said: “I was honoured.

The money will go towards buying hands for Tilly, which she needs twice a year and cost more than £23,000 a pair.”

The venture was supported by the Enterprise Coaching project, part of Solutions for Business, the Government’s package of publicly fundedbusiness support.

She said: “I’d advise people to contact Be Enterprising. I can’t thank them enough.”
