FORTY years ago, Alan Lax joined a fledgling Teesside company that was starting to make a mark in the plant hire and demolition business.

Today, Mr Lax is leaving the business after spending his career at Able UK, working alongside Peter Stephenson, who is now executive chairman.

During his time with the company, Mr Lax has worked on a range of major projects across the country, including at the former North Tees Power Station site in Hartlepool, which is now home to Able UK’s headquarters.

Mr Stephenson said: “Alan has given tremendously conscientious service and has been a great work colleague.

“It is very unusual nowadays for people to stay with the same company for so long – especially undertaking the tough work he has been involved in.

“We will all miss him and hope that he, together with his partner Audrey and their children, will enjoy a happy retirement."
