BUSINESSES are being invited to join forces to promote and support each other during the economic slump and beyond.

Companies of all sizes and from all sectors can join the South Durham Business Network, which will be launched tomorrow.

The organisation started life as a Sedgefield Business Forum, but with the changing political landscape and the pressures of the economy the executive group felt it was a good time to expand.

Chairman Darren Race said: “We want to make the most of local resources, expertise and experience.”

Members will automatically become part of Business Clubs North-East.

It is hoped they will share skills, experience and advice, as well as forming a united voice to lobby organisations and politicians about issues they face.

Mr Race said: “If members are not happy about a particular issue we will be in a strong position to lobby appropriately and work with organisations for change.”

It is also hoped that by creating greater awareness among business people of the products and services available on their doorstep they will trade locally and support one another.

About 150 people are expected at tomorrow’s launch event, which will be held in the town hall, Spennymoor, County Durham, from noon to 4pm.
