SAUSAGE maker Debbie and Andrew’s have tapped into the trend for veal after improvements in animal welfare standards put it back on British menus.
The Thirsk company, which has grown from a kitchen table venture to a multimillion pound business, saw their new veal sausages prove popular with visitors to the recent Country Living Fayre, in London.
The new range comes after backing for veal from TV presenter Janet Street Porter, and celebrity chefs including Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Rick Stein and Gordon Ramsay.
Debbie and Andrew Keeble started their sausage business in 1999 when they were struggling pig farmers. They source all of their meat from high welfare, British farms with direct traceability.
Mrs Keeble said: “We totally support getting British veal back onto the menu.
“When we took our sausages to Country Living we expected some negative comments, but everyone who tried them loved them and supported us.”
