MORE than 200 architectural firms from around the world have registered an interest in designing homes for a development on Teesside.
Some of the biggest names in contemporary design have registered to take part in a design contest for Tees Valley Regeneration’s North Shore development, in Stockton.
Developers Urban Splash and Muse Developments launched the Make Me a Home competition in September, in conjunction with Building Design Magazine and the Royal Institute of British Architects.
Architects were invited to design family housing for the £300m scheme and have been encouraged to break with convention.
Simon Gawthorpe, managing director at Urban Splash, said: “When we launched the competition we asked that the designs were practical, yet cutting-edge, to go together with our masterplan for North Shore.”
It is anticipated that at least 250 family homes will eventually stand on North Shore’s waterfront location.
To date, the site has already benefited from £18m of investment and detailed planning permission will be sought next year.
Shortlisted entries will go on public display in February at a venue to be confirmed.
The winner will be announced next spring.
