A MOTORWAY service site in the region has won two industry awards.

Roadchef’s Durham Motorway Service Area (MSA) is celebrating after its McDonald’s branch was named Unit of The Year at the business’ Heroes of The Year ceremony.

Located on the A1(M) near Bowburn, County Durham, the team at Roadchef Durham’s McDonald’s unit beat 30 other MSA’s across the UK where the achievements of staff and co-located businesses, including shops, hotels and catering operations are celebrated.

Integral to the success of the McDonald’s branch was the launch of Roadchef’s first Drive Thru.

The site also won the Kieran Whyte Hotel of the Year award after an exceptional number of customer enrolments to the Wyndham Rewards scheme, followed by a 100 per cent Wyndham audit.

Site director Aga Edwards said: “It’s fantastic to be recognised for our hard work at Roadchef’s awards this year, and to take home the Hotel of the Year award is also a real honour. By delivering such great service at both our McDonald’s unit and across the site, we hope that our team has made the UK’s roads a safer and happier place.”

Roadchef CEO Mark Fox said: “Durham has been one of our headline areas throughout the last twelve months and since the opening of our first McDonald’s Drive Thru, it has gone from strength to strength.

"The team works incredibly hard to do all they can to make Britain’s roads a happier and safer place and this award is a testament to their efforts, demonstrating their commitment to de-stress and delight our customers with excellent customer service.”
