ARMSTRONG Watson, accountants, business and financial advisers have acquired Eura Audit Northallerton.

The merger took effect earlier this month, strengthening the firm’s position as a leading adviser to businesses across North Yorkshire and in line with the strategic aim to become the “go to firm for family and owner managed businesses in the North of England and Scotland”.

The move comes after Eura Audit partner Peter Tarren made the decision to retire.

He said: “For some time now I have been considering retirement, but it was essential to me that I find the right firm to take on my clients, that would offer continuity and the high level of service we have always strived to provide.

"I chose Armstrong Watson as I believe that they are a good fit culturally and match the type of work we do and the clients we serve. I also believe that going forward they will be able to provide support in areas we have not previously been able to.”

All five remaining Eura Audit colleagues will join Armstrong Watson at their Northallerton office based at York House, Thornfield Business Park.

Established in 1867, the firm has a strong presence in the North, with 16 offices across Yorkshire, Northumberland, Cumbria and Scotland.

Paul Dickson, Armstrong Watson managing partner and CEO, said: “We are delighted to welcome the clients and colleagues of Eura Audit to our Northallerton practice. This merger combines two firms of similar culture, with complementary practice strengths and sector expertise. We hope that by offering an increasing range of specialists and advisers, we will ensure that we continue to provide local businesses with tailored, proactive support and advice essential for profit and growth.”

Michael Walby and Anna Lovett of Burnetts Solicitors advised Armstrong Watson on the legal aspects of the transaction.

Mr Walby said: “We are very pleased to have advised Armstrong Watson on this acquisition which strengthens its existing offering in North Yorkshire. We wish them every success in developing the business further.”

Armstrong Watson continues to grow in the region, last year opening an office in Newcastle.

Speaking of the firm’s aspirations, Mr Dickson said: “This acquisition is a culmination of continued growth, both organic and through acquisition, cementing our position across the North of England and Scotland as the ‘go to’ firm for family and owner managed businesses.”
