IT’S surely fair to say that we’re all worried about Brexit. Whatever way you voted in the referendum, the time it’s taking to sort out, and the unknown effect that it will have on our personal and business lives, has the whole country wondering what will happen once we are out of the EU.
One knock-on effect of the uncertainty has been the down-turn in house sales around the UK, with many people putting off buying a home because of Brexit. Around the country, there has been a noticeable flattening of the market, with new instructions slowing down, slower overall sales, and a palpable caution to people making any long-term housing decisions.
But this has not been reflected in Darlington and the North-East. Drive around the town and you’ll see plenty of ‘For Sale’ boards on display – many of them belonging to Robinsons Estate Agent.
As a result of relaxed planning constraints over the last few years, there has been an unprecedented increase in the scale of new-build houses around the area, which can clearly be seen at a number of sites within Darlington, as well as outside the town at Westpark, Middleton-St-George, Neasham, Hurworth, Heighington, and Newton Aycliffe.

“Although there is uncertainty about the future, we have been selling at a better rate in 2019, than in 2018. There has been a very definite upward supply and demand curve.
“Robinsons has been bucking the national trend, and the market still seems buoyant, looking ahead.”
