A PROVIDER of rope access services has secured a deal to support a significant infrastructure project in the Lake District.

Tees Valley-based Total Solutions, in partnership with Cubby Construction, is working on the final phase of the development that will help create the new multi-user trail between Keswick and Threlkeld, which was severely damaged by Storm Desmond during December 2015.

Storm Desmond caused extensive damage to two bridges that cross the River Greta, resulting in flooding and pathways being completely washed away. The extensive works will rebuild and repair the remaining 5km of the trail as well as see the construction of two new bridges.

Total Solutions scope also includes the blasting and painting refurbishment of eight bridges, six of which cross the River Greta.

This final phase of the Keswick-Threlkeld development is expected to be completed in autumn 2020, providing a boost to the area’s local and tourism economies.

Mick Flaherty, managing director of Total Solutions, said: “The devastating effects of Storm Desmond have had a massive impact on the community and the progression of the final phase of this development will help to revitalise the area."
