A GROWING business has opened a new 2.2-acre site in the region.

Shipping containers firm Parsons Containers Group has launched a new site situated under the Tees flyover, near Stockton.

Parsons Containers was founded by entrepreneur Ean Parsons.

He has been working in the container industry for over 30 years.

The new site holds both a container sales office and a site for Parsons’ U Hold the Key self-storage business, alongside container handling facilities.

Parsons Group CEO Mr Parsons said: “This is a very important moment for the Parsons Containers Group.

“On its own, the new Teesside site is a significant and exciting addition to our portfolio, but it also represents much more in the context of our wider ambitions.

“We have the ability to move and store containers close to the A19, with such good access to the UK road network, which opens up a lot of opportunities.

“Similarly, our improved U Hold the Key stores capacity there will help meet the increasing demand for self-storage.

“We have chosen this site carefully, knowing that we can develop it into one of the largest in the group, an important consideration as Parsons continues to invest for growth.”

The company now has nine sites in the North-East.

A spokesperson for the company said the latest site has the potential to develop into one of the biggest run by the group.

The Parsons Containers Group was founded in 2000 and is now one of the UK’s largest multi-discipline shipping container businesses, with its headquarters based in Sedgefield, County Durham.

All of the group’s divisions have experienced significant growth in recent years and between them, it's individual companies operate across several sites in the North-East and one in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

In 2018, the Parsons Containers Group secured an investment of £825,000 to support the expansion of its operations across the UK.

The funding was secured through Maven Capital Partners, one of the UK’s active private equity houses, through the Finance Durham Fund and the North East Development Capital Fund, which injected £500,000 and £325,000 of capital into the business.

The group said opening the new Teesside site is the latest step towards achieving the objectives outlined in the strategy that secured the Maven investment.

The Parsons Containers Group expects to announce details of more new sites and key team appointments in the near future.
