A PRESTIGIOUS award recognising a company's continued commitment to health and safety for its staff base has been given to a Darlington employer.

Cleveland Bridge UK has earned a Gold award in the internationally-renowned RoSPA Health and Safety Awards, the longest-running industry awards scheme in the UK. It will be presented at a ceremony at the ExCeL Centre, London, in June.

The RoSPA Awards scheme, which receives entries from organisations around the world, recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including leadership and workforce involvement.

Staff and contractors take part in a range of initiatives including regular scheduled meetings, toolbox talks and safety audits, which encourages a unified and positive attitude to safety and compliance.

Susan Debnam, head of SHE at Cleveland Bridge UK, said “This award is in recognition of all the hard work Cleveland Bridge put in on a daily basis to embed safety in all we do. It is the most critical element of any job and this Gold Award is testament to the level of dedication and teamwork we have here at Cleveland Bridge.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, said: “The RoSPA Awards have become the key fixture in the health and safety calendar with new sponsors and new awards this year including the Leisure Safety Awards, the Safe@Work Safe@Home Award and the Inspiration Awards. Highly-respected, with almost 2,000 entrants every year, RoSPA award winners benefit from the wide-ranging rewards of improved sector reputation.”
