ONE of the region’s most experienced auctioneers is celebrating the start of 2019 with the opening of a new auction and valuation business.

Based in Bedale, Elstob & Elstob is the brainchild of husband and wife team David and Beth Elstob who aim to provide a focal point for buying and selling high-quality antiques, fine art and objects of distinction.

Between them, the couple have a wealth of combined experience in the antiques business.

Mr Elstob is one of only a small number of auctioneers in the country to have achieved the distinction of RICS Chartered Arts and Antiques Surveyor.

He previously headed up the saleroom team at Addisons of Barnard Castle and most recently was a director at Thomas Watson’s of Darlington.

Beth Elstob is one of the region’s leading jewellery experts and over the years has built up her own successful consultancy business.

The Elstobs are joined in their new business venture by a team of top-level specialists who have cut their teeth with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Bonhams and Doyle in New York.

Mr Elstob said: "We felt that there was a need for an auction and valuation business in the region that specialised in handling high-quality lots and had the ability to provide top-level professional services, without having to travel further afield.

"With today’s sophisticated online marketing tools and live internet auctions, it is possible to fully engage with those large global audiences, thus ensuring maximum exposure and excellent results."

"We are also able to combine this high level of expertise and professionalism with an individual service to clients that is not always possible at larger establishments.

"Great care will be taken to ensure the very best experience and outcomes for every customer whether they are buying or selling treasured objects or in need of professional and sensitive valuation services,” he added.

The new auction house will hold four catalogue sales a year from its spacious premises at Bedale Hall, which will showcase some of the finest objects in the region.

The first sale will be held on Sunday, 24 March 24, for which consignments are currently invited.

There will also be a number of specialist sales in the auction calendar held at other prestigious venues, including Newby Hall, near Ripon.

As well as offering general advice on the valuation, sale, purchase and management of antiques and fine art, Elstob & Elstob has nine specialist departments comprising: Jewellery; Watches; Sculpture; Pictures; ‘Mouseman’ and Yorkshire Oak; Ceramics and Glass; Silver; Furniture; and 20th Century Design.

Other services provided by the team include professional valuations for sales, probate, insurance and family division, as well as the provision for single owner and corporate sales. RICS validated practitioners are also qualified in the wider areas of storage, security, conservation, restoration, shipping and packaging.
