A TALENTED baker has earned bronze in the world’s largest international cake baking competition.

Former NHS worker Amanda Heaviside who runs Fairy Hill Cakes, in County Durham, decided to enter the Cake International competition on a whim.

She wanted to make a wedding cake inspired by Remembrance Day and created a design showing two lovers during the First World War.

She said: “It was amazing to be a part of the competition as there were thousands of people who had come from all over the world.

“It was actually my chiropractor who gave me the idea for the design, I really wasn’t sure what to make but it was fitting for Remembrance Day and I was really happy with it.”

Mrs Heaviside plans to enter the competition next year and is interested in entering the novelty deign category.

She attended the event with bakers, Nova Dawson from Precisely Iced and Louise Tuck from Cake Lady Creations, Mrs Heaviside said she was proud to support fellow local businesses.
