A LOCAL electrician has built a successful business on supplying and fitting LED lighting – and saving customers up to 80 per cent in energy costs.

Gary Rudd, who set up the business LED Supply & Fit, in Newton Aycliffe four years ago, says: “We deal with both domestic and industrial lighting, so customers will save money by converting to LED. Not only does LED produce a brighter light, which often means you can replace your existing units with fewer LED, but average savings in lighting costs are between 60 and 80 per cent.”

LED is a more natural-looking light than the yellow, sodium light, and energy-saving LED panels use half the wattage of traditional lighting. Fluorescent lights might last between three and 15 thousand hours, whereas the LED equivalent will give you 50 thousand-plus hours. LED is lower maintenance, cheaper to run and more energy-saving than traditional lighting.

Gary, who has had an electrical business in Spennymoor for the last 21 years, realised the benefits of LED lighting when he read an email about the energy savings that could be obtained with just one LED panel. They were just coming on to the market, but he and a close friend immediately saw the potential savings for businesses, so they decided to build a website.

The online business, launched in 2015, was an immediate success, with a showroom unit in Newton Aycliffe following a year later.

“We supply and install for anyone who wants the benefits of LED lighting,” said Gary. “Householders, residential, businesses, wholesalers and other electricians.

“We offer a free, no-obligation survey, which shows the total install price-savings to be made, and return of investment. We can now also offer other energy-saving, cost-effective products.

“Although it is still a relatively young business, the progression is easy to see, with more and more businesses converting to LED. We are still building and re-investing in LED Supply & Fit.
