A PETROCHEMICAL industry organisation boss has resigned from his role.

Iain Wright will step down as chief executive at the North-East Process Industry Cluster (Nepic) later this year.

The former Hartlepool Labour MP, who replaced the retiring Dr Stan Higgins last year, is moving to a newly-created role within the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Speaking upon the announcement yesterday, Ian Swales, Nepic chairman, said: “I am sorry to see Iain go but can understand him accepting the approach from his professional association.

“Iain has set the course for the future and I fully expect Nepic to go from strength-to-strength.”

Mr Swales said Nepic’s board will meet before the Easter break to discuss a smooth transition to a new leader, while remaining focused and committed to its member organisations, partners and established team of staff.

A spokesperson added: “We thank Iain for his contribution, particularly in relation to strategy and budget planning, and wish him well."
