SCIENCE lovers are being offered a rare opportunity to take part in a night-time tour of Teesside’s chemical industry.

Sabic is inviting the general public on a behind the scenes tour of the company’s Wilton site, near Redcar.

Visitors will also be able to take a late night trip to the top of Middlesbrough’s Transporter Bridge.

Those attending will take a glass lift to the top of the bridge and be rewarded with a bird’s eye view of Teesside’s night sky.

The events are part of annual Discover Middlesbrough Festival, which starts on Friday (October 14) and is being sponsored by Sabic.

The company is also hosting Wilton’s Industry at Night Photo Exhibition, featuring images taken by professional photographer Marc Thorneycroft of Photoworks and two SABIC employees, Stephen Hornsey and Mike Walker.

John Bruijnooge, director at Sabic’s Wilton site, said: “Sabic is delighted to take part in the Discover Middlesbrough Festival.

“After nearly a decade of operating on Teesside, we have established strong roots within the local community.

“Through this festival, it will be fantastic for more Teessiders to discover more about what we actually do.”

Sabic employs around 600 staff and is one of the world’s largest makers of chemicals, fertilizers and plastics.
